In less than a month, kids will be back in school (either virtually or in-person) and summer will be coming to an end. While this summer has been like no other, don’t let these last few days slip away. Here’s a short list of things you can do inexpensively or even free and while social distancing.

  1. Enjoy an outdoor movie. Many places this summer have restructured and now show outdoor movies. Whether it be a traditional drive-in theater or your local community showing movies in a park, this is a great way to enjoy an evening with family or friends. If you can’t find one near you, consider setting up a sheet – or project on the side of your house – and show one of your favorite movies in your backyard.
  2. Visit the local zoo. The animals miss seeing you, and this is a great activity you can do without a lot of contact with others.
  3. Play a round or two of golf. Whether you play 18 or nine holes, mini golf or frisbee/disc golf, there’s something for everyone and all skill levels to enjoy.
  4. Hike at a county or state park. You don’t have to go far to enjoy the great outdoors. The parks have hiking trails for beginners to advanced. You can easily spend a day checking out the scenic trails.
  5. Kayak, boat, paddle board or canoe on our area’s great lakes and rivers. While you paddle, check out the beautiful lake homes or the quiet river surroundings and wildlife.
  6. Make a campfire in your backyard and enjoy S’mores and friendships under the stars.

No matter what you do, be sure to enjoy these last days of summer.
